When does a water heater need to be replaced?

Generally speaking, there are two main reasons why a water heater needs to be replaced: 1) The water heater will no long heat the water. 2) The water heater is leaking because the tank is old. From our experience, we have seen that water heaters on average usually last around 10 years. Most water heaters come with a standard 6 year warranty. We rarely see a water heater stop working within the warranty period.

What is an expansion tank?

An expansion tank to a device that helps take extra pressure off of your plumbing system due to thermal expansion. Thermal expansion is when the pressure increases in a plumbing system due to an increase in water temperature. As your water heater heats your water, the water pressure in your pipes will increase. This increase in pressure can cause unwanted strain on your pipes, faucets, and appliances. The expansion tank is installed in order to give the extra pressure in your plumbing systems somewhere to go and something to push against.
